Igualada and the Anoia Region
The Anoia region is located in the western end of the central Catalonian valley. The valley is part of a strip where the coastal flora and the typical Mediterranean vegetation of the dryer areas meet.
The region has outstanding artistic features, particularly from the Romanesque period, a great example of which is Tossa de Montbui. The altarpiece in Rubió and the chapel in Santa Càndia d’Orpí are examples of regional Gothic art. The nearby Castle of Claramunt displays important architectonic elements, and treats visitors with a breathtaking view of the surrounding land. The village of Copons is also wroth a visit, as it welcomes visitors with its ancient narrow streets and old arches.
The city of Igualada, administrative centre of the Anoia region, is only 10 minutes' drive from the Villa. The economic boom at the turn of the 20th century brought modernism to Igualada, which grew thanks to an expanding textile industry. The municipal slaughterhouse and around 30 other buildings are clear proof of the transformation of the city.
